Cootie Catchers

Remember these?

Lauren brought one in that she had made at home with her care provider.  She decided today that she would teach her friends how to make them. With our intrepid Educational Assistant Mrs Telford at her side, Lauren became the teacher and shared her skills.

Folding accurately was a bit of a challenge, but the children rose to the task.
Next came the writing and the numbering.

The children had a wonderful time playing the game.

It even came outside after the storm passed!

While it looks like a simple children's game, this activity teaches a lot of skills. Children learn to sequence (fold like this first, like that second), fine muscle control, writing, counting, spelling, turn taking, perseverance and communication. All that packed into a cootie catcher!
