Wonderful Wire

Play dough has been a long standing favourite exploration area in our room and we wondered what might happen if wire were incorporated into the play.
Below are images of children experimenting, manipulating and creating many unique pieces.  They used their fine motor movements and skills to twist, bend, wrap, weave, fold and curl all the while gaining a better understanding of the properties of wire.
The experience was started by introducing wire as a powerful medium that comes from deep within Mother Earth and we will be shaping a part of the earth.

Claire tried wrapping it on her finger to see what the effect would be.

Jordy worked at twisting her wire in a different way.

Lily attempted cutting with wire.

Selena created longer pieces and then shaped them and had them free stand in the play dough.  Ideas  of the hundred acre wood and the Lorax's truffla trees emerge.

Haley created herself earphones with the materials.
Creations of all sorts were being invented by our young artists while gaining an appreciation for metal and it's inspiring properties.

Wire wonderful wire.
